Unsuccessful Telecoms

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

‘We help our customers successfully use their office phones’. This was my reply to someone who recently asked me ‘so what do you guys at Telcare do?’

The response was ‘Is it possible to unsuccessfully use your office phones then?’ I had without realising it, set this poor unsuspecting soul up for a lesson in How Not To Use Your Office Phones. Fortunately I took pity and resisted the urge to bore her to death.

I did, however, ask if she had ever read the user guide or manual relating to the phones in her office. The look said it all! Quite frankly I don’t blame her, seriously who has time to read through a user guide, it doesn’t make for an entertaining read and there are more important things to be done if you are trying to run your business.

Thankfully our customers don’t need to trawl through an entire manual; they have the benefit of relying on us to do it for them. We can point you in the right direction, talk you through with step by step instructions or handle it directly with remote access. We can advise on making the most of the features your system has to offer so that your business can operate more efficiently and professionally. Our customers also call on us to fix their faults. This could range from a minor problem with a particular handset or curly cord to a major system failure. We understand it’s never convenient to be without your phones, that’s why at Telcare we give guaranteed response times so you know that any fault will be resolved as soon as possible.

If you don’t have time to organise your office phones, let alone read the manual, you might benefit by handing it over to someone else. Why not call Telcare? Maybe we can help.

Just one more thing – when did you last clean your phone? Telcare provide all their customers with telephone wipes to keep their handsets clean and germ free. We will be happy to provide you with a bag of complimentary wipes too.

February Fun

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

2011 seems to be racing by, everyone seems to be busy so it is great to have the opportunity to stop every now and again and take a moment to relax and catch up. That’s exactly what the Telcare team did earlier this month when we all got together for the Telcare Curry Night.

One of the enjoyable aspects of our job is meeting so many different people, so it is always fun to hear who has been where. Just recently the team have been all over the place including visits to a Convent in Essex, a model agency in a converted chapel in the Hertfordshire countryside, a beautiful residential property in Paris but our favourite story was the recent case of mistaken identity.

We have been working recently at Crawley Town Football Club. Now those of you that are football savvy will know that Crawley Town Football Club have managed to reach their way to the fifth round of the FA Cup. A feat only 5 other non-league teams have achieved since the Second World War. The excitement increased when they found that they would be playing Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sat 19th February. As you can imagine the scene at Crawley Town FC has been buzzing and it has been an interesting time to work there, but the highlight for Nick was when he needed more cable from his car. He exited the side entrance of the club only to be met by a Sky Sports Film Crew, who proceeded to film his every move. Eventually the crew realised that the guy in the Telcare shirt carrying cable probably wasn’t who they thought he was, but it certainly made Nick’s day.

Free office phones – the story of events and many thanks

Friday, December 10th, 2010

At the beginning of 2010 we decided to help a small business by giving away a telephone system, complete with installation and 12 months’ support. How to choose the right business was the problem as there are so many organisations in need or updating their current set up. So the contest concept was born (and entitled the Golden Giveaway) and we began inviting companies to tell us how they would benefit by having the free system.

The idea was launched at the Be An Amazing Business Builder Show held at the Inn on the Lake, Cobham. The show was a perfect place to network with like minded people and it was in fact here that we met Shiel Campbell of the Utility Warehouse. As senior executive at the Utility Warehouse and a serial networker, Shiel has helped many individuals and businesses with their utility requirements, including phone lines. Shiel immediately identified a possible candidate for our free system and made sure she had all the necessary information to pass on. Throughout the summer our campaign was advertised in various publications, newsletters, mailshots and of course by word of mouth.

Our Business Link advisor Debbie Hough, kindly agreed to judge the entries, along with two Telcare directors. Our aim was to find an organisation that would truly benefit by having a telephone system installed.

One entry really stood out and that was the application made by a care home/hospice for disabled adults in Faversham, known as Fynvola Foundation. Incidentally, the very people Shiel Campbell had in mind. Their current set up was just two cordless phones. They had no facility to transfer a call, other than dashing about, phone in hand, searching for member of staff. The advantages that a system could provide were enormous. Needless to say Fynvola made the shortlist and then went on to win the system. Telcare awarded the system to a delighted Jenny Gurney and staff at Fynvola on the 8th November and on the 29th the system went live. The home are now happily using the system and are comforted to know that they have continued support from Telcare along the way.

We would to say thank you to all those involved in the process, including those that participated by submitting an entry. We received lots of enthusiasm and support for the idea as well as for the search for the lucky winner. Special thanks go to the following:

More about the Winners of the Golden Giveaway!

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Further to our recent post where we announced that Kent-based Fynvola Foundation, a care home for older learning disabled people, are the lucky winners of our “Golden Giveaway” competition which launched in June this year, here’s the full story plus some pictures …

Their prize includes a sophisticated Siemens business telephone system as well as full installation and a years’ maintenance, and, as we explained before,  will allow the business to communicate more effectively and efficiently, both internally (for example, in between buildings) and externally.

Says Jenny Gurney from Fynvola Foundation: “This fabulous prize will make a massive difference to the way our business operates. It will be good to rely on having a fully accessible as well as flexible telephone system that won’t let us down whether it is in day-to-day use, or, particularly, if there is an emergency.”

Our competition invited business owners to say in around 200 words what the installation of a free telephone system would mean to them and their business. The winning entry from Fynvola Foundation (which currently has seven residents and will eventually be able to give specialised care to fifteen disadvantaged adults in a real home-from-home environment) said:

“With the conversion of the large garage as a therapeutic day activities centre, Fynvola hopes to welcome other learning disabled people from the local community to join our residents in the day opportunities. Fynvola has created a home where people can end their lives in a happy and caring environment and ensure they die with dignity among people who care. We need a telephone system that will enable calls to be transferred to various points, activities and staff around the house and grounds. A system that can be used in all emergency situations and ensure our communications on all levels are quick, responsive and reliable. Safety and time are important elements in the overall care of learning disabled people in our community.”

Debbie Hough, Business Link Advisor, who was one of the judges says: ‘Fynvola Foundation are a truly deserving winner of the ‘Golden Giveaway’.  A new telephone system will not only allow for more responsive communications within the home; something which is critical in supporting high quality patient care, but also support plans to cater for those who have learning difficulties within the local community by offering wider services within the grounds.”

Jenny adds: “An advanced telephone system means that we will be able to communicate on all levels and safeguards our residents. It ensures that we are able to use our funds directly for the residents care rather than diverting precious funds for equipment.  Our sincere thanks go to Telcare and their Directors for considering our application and for choosing Fynvola. This means a great deal to us and will enhance our home and the lives of the learning disabled people in our care.”

All the entries to our Golden Giveaway competition were from deserving businesses, and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter. But in the end, the Fynvola Foundation’s entry really stood out. After much deliberation, we shortlisted two entries and having visited both businesses, it was obvious just how much difference the system would make to the care home.

The Be an Amazing Business Builder Show got off to a sizzling start with temperatures reaching 27 degrees as Roger House, the Kent Chairman of the FSB officially opened the show on Monday afternoon.

As we welcomed visitors and fellow exhibitioners to our stand there were networking events and seminars being enjoyed throughout the show. Speakers included Barnaby Wynter of the brand bucket company, Carl French of Replico, John Roberts of Stiddard Maidstone and Nigel Kimber of Vantis Corporate Finance. Racing Challenge provided some fun enticing the competitive spirit in visitors and exhibitioners alike. In fact the overall winning time was made by Mark Fowler of Document Scanning. You can see Mark proudly displaying his medal and bubbly in our photos.

Each visitor was provided with a folder and as they made their way around the show they collected a sheet of top tips from each stand. At the end of the day our attendees had a full folder of valuable tips from all the participants including accountants, solicitors and of course from Telcare too. If you were unable to come to the show but are interested in obtaining copies of the top tips, please go to the Be an Amazing Business Builder website or the Replico website where pdf versions will be available. The organisers of the event went to great lengths to ensure that the show ran smoothly and they are to be congratulated on achieving their goal. Talking of congratulations, the winner of our champagne was Michael O’ Connor from The Utility Warehouse. Cheers Michael!
